WORTHINGTON — Legacy Tax & Accounting opened its doors after a Nov. 19 ribbon cutting ceremony. The new Worthington business, located on Fourth Avenue, offers full tax services including individual, farm, partnership and any business taxes, to name a few. Though the business has limited office hours, owners Sue Johnson and Deb Olson will also provide bookkeeping services, which will cover a number of items from payroll and sales tax to accounting.
“We’re open year ’round to serve the public,” said Olson. “Whether it’s extensions, tax letters, new businesses pre-tax, or consultations.”
Johnson and Olson have known each other for years, and both have substantial histories in accounting and finance. Johnson started at a local Certified Public Accountant firm in 1994. She has worked in both the public and private sector, been an auditor for the City of Worthington and for the past 26 years, Johnson has provided services for different area businesses as a staff accountant.
As for Olson, she took the CPA exam in 1993 and also began work at the same local firm before joining the finance department for the City of Worthington in 1996. Olson has continued to work for local tax offices until opening her own business.
Though both women started at the same CPA firm, it wasn’t until they were both working for the city that they met. Their paths continued to cross at a local tax business where they worked together for years.
“We knew we could work well together,” said Johnson, when asked why the pair decided to go into business together. “We have that good repertoire where we just go back and forth and we can bounce ideas off each other.”
“We know we can work together,” Olson added, “because we have.”
